Job Purpose
Our Banquet Captains are full-time or part-time positions. These are people who can take the lead at our on-site and off-site events for Liquid Catering, Events at Judson Mill, and The 405. These events require extreme attention to detail, a strong and accommodating personality, and the ability to plan and adjust accordingly. Banquet Captains may work independently or supervise other staff members depending on the event. Bartending and banquet/event experience is preferred but not required. Currently, we are looking for several people who want to work part-time, at least 4-8 weekend/evening shifts a month, as well as 1-2 full-time team members.
Job Duties
Venue Captain - will work 4-8 shifts a month. There are events on weekday evenings and weekends with varying shift times from 9:00 AM-1:00 AM. Events range from 25-800 guests.
Supervise events at our venues. Offer guidance, direction, motivation, and reprimands to our staff working events.
Ensure the total venue operations are successful, including set-up, event execution, and breakdown.
Work with the Client to address their needs and ensure their expectations are exceeded during the event.
Supervise all front of house food catering operations. Includes setting up buffets and food stations, directing staff, restocking food, and ensuring all food safety regulations are being followed.
Communicate with and monitor outside vendors (caterer, DJ, florist, etc). Make sure they are following our policies and are completing their contracted tasks.
Handle emergencies and issues as they arise.
Ensure the life safety plans of the building.
Provide emergency support to off-site events and our short-term rental guests during your shift.
Set up and breakdown event tables, chairs, decor, and other equipment according to the lay-out and Client needs.
Complete light cleaning duties, both in preparation and completion of events, but also pop-up spills during events.
Document event details, inventory, and recap reports through digital recap forms.
Bartending - possible to work up 2-8 shifts a month. There are events on weekday evenings and weekends with varying shift times from 1:00 PM-12:00 AM.
Supervise events and offer guidance and direction to other staff working events.
Be attentive and serve all members and guests with a smile and professional attitude. Interact with event guests encouragingly.
Prepare mixed cocktails according to our recipes. Pour beer, wine, and cocktails with style and accuracy.
Monitor guests for safe alcohol consumption. Tactfully handle unruly, intoxicated, or inappropriate guest behavior as needed.
Ensure the company's safety standards are upheld by monitoring for over-intoxication, food safety, and weather dangers. Ensure all local, state, and federal laws are followed, particularly regarding alcohol service. Report incidents or unsafe conditions according to company protocols.
Complete all set-up, break-down, cleaning, and side work tasks. Tasks include setting up and breaking down for events, loading and unloading vehicles, cleaning the bar area, wiping down and stacking furniture, restocking bathrooms and linens, taking out trash, etc.
Restock bar equipment, products, mixers, and glassware before, after, and continuously throughout your shift.
Document event details and recaps through digital recap forms.
For cash bars, balance all credit card and cash transactions accurately.
Non-Event Duties - full time employees work weekday hours on the following tasks. Hours vary based on the event schedule.
Complete weekly cleaning tasks, including cleaning banquet rooms, restrooms, kitchens, vehicles, and equipment.
Set-up and break-down for events.
Move equipment from one venue to another.
Ensure all equipment is inventoried, kept clean, and organized.
Assist with food prep.
Attend staff meetings and complete ongoing training.
Complete other tasks as assigned.
Expectations
Attend and be well-prepared for all event shifts, staff meetings, and training.
Must be able to complete tasks on time and efficiently.
Own a cell phone with a text, voice, and data plan that can be used for work purposes.
Provide exceptional customer service to our clients and guests.
Must be able to think critically and problem solve, sometimes in high-stress situations.
Should be able to demonstrate excellent communication and organizational skills.
Should always come to with a positive attitude, ready to work hard, and be a supportive member of our team.
This role requires frequent physical activity and should be considered a physically demanding job, including standing for extended periods, lifting equipment, and working in a fast‑paced environment.
Be familiar with all our company's policies, products, and services.
Typical Schedule
As this is an event-based job, our Part-Time Banquet Captains are expected to work 4-8 evening/weekend shifts a month. Our pay period runs Wednesday-Tuesday. As the schedule varies, this job is unsuitable for someone working simultaneously at another bar/restaurant/event venue.
Full-time employees work 4-8 evening/weekend shifts a month. Additionally, they will work 3-4 days a week completing non-event duties. Those times and days can vary based on the schedule that week.
Our events are seasonal, with the heaviest months being April, May, September, October, November, and December.
Perks
Hourly rate of $17-$25 an hour. This is a non-exempt, part-time position. The hourly pay varies based on the duties of that shift. With overtime, full-time employees typically make $43-$47,000 a year.
Bartending shifts are eligible to participate in shared tip pools, Venue Captain shifts are not.

Job requirements
1+ years of experience in banquets, catering, or events. Some bartending or catering experience is preferred.

Should demonstrate strong leadership skills, particularly with task delegation and conflict resolution.

Must be willing to work 2-3 nights and weekends per week.
Must be able to read, write, and speak fluent English.
Must have a cell phone with data and text features.
Must be at least 21 years of age.
Must have a valid driver's license with no major traffic violations and have your own vehicle. Must be comfortable driving a box truck.
Must be able to lift, move, and carry 50+ lbs. by yourself.
High School diploma or GED required. A college degree is NOT a requirement for this position.
